About Åland Museum

Åland Museum was founded in 1934 and is Åland’s main museum. On 1 January 2016, Åland Museum was incorporated into Kulturbyrån, with a mandate to administer all of Åland’s museums, attractions and collections owned by the Government of Åland.

Åland Museum operations are primarily housed in the main building at Storagatan 1 in Mariehamn. The public areas of the building include space for the Cultural History Museum of Åland and Åland Islands Art Museum, reception, museum shop and film & lecture hall. The office section has rooms for staff who are responsible for exhibitions, collections, conservation and educational activities. The museum also has climate-controlled facilities for its collections and archives. The Åland Museum Collections include the Ethnological Collection, Archaeological Collection, Textile Collection, Art Collection, Photography Collection and Sound & Film Collection.
